Met Paula and we enjoyed the warm weather.  The pace was good for a recovery run and my leg was a little tight and I stretched a couple of times along the way.

I really did not want to run today because of the howling wind all night long, but the guilt of not being able to run yesterday got me out the door.    I met Paula and we decided to go east/west to avoid a headwind and actually ended up having a good run.  My leg was tight again and I need to be more diligent about my stretches.  It is interesting though because usually after about 4-5 miles it goes away - maybe it just needs more of a warm up.

Met the BBK for  our work out today.  I went for the extra mileage at 5:15 but also had to leave early today.    The first part of our work out was a 3 mile tempo run with lots of hills, I am still taking in pretty easy because of my leg so my tempo was slow paced but still the hills were difficult.  My goal is to just stay healthy and get through Boston.

Nice easy run with Paula.  Feel a little guilty for only 3 miles but need to stay under 45 for the week.  Gearing up for 20 tomorrow.

Met the regular Saturday group for our first 20 miler as we prepare for Boston.  I was very nervous and was preparing myself for the possibility that I might not be able to keep up or have to quit because my longest run in preparation was a 14 miler 5 weeks ago. ( I missed 16 & 18 because I was in India).   I  was pleasantly surprised that I felt great until about mile 17 and I really began to tire.   I did stay with the group the entire time and we had a good pace.  I knew we would be running the hill at the Daybreak Temple and I was okay with that until I saw it.  I have never wanted to just close my eyes and run so bad, but the desire to not fall and get hurt made me keep them open.

Ice bath aftwards for 20 min and other than tired hips and calfs, I am still feeling pretty good at the end of the day!

Ran with Paula this morning.  Felt pretty good but I could tell I was still tired.  Both knees were twingy so I need more stretching and work on my quads.

Met the BBK's today. There was lots of snow on the JRP and at 13 degrees so the pace was slow.  Quite possibly my slowest pace ever with them.  We warmed up and then did hill repeats on a new hill Cheryl found us.  It was a good workout but slowed down due to the elements.  I had to leave early again :(

Ran with Paula this morning.  We ran a route we haven't run in quite some time.  It is 3.5 miles on a gradual uphill and then 3.5 back down.  Left knee (IT band) felt good but now I have a new pain in my right knee.........getting frustrated.

Met the BBK for the extra mileage work out and we got a preview of the "real" workout.  It was up hill, down hill, up hill, down hill...... While hills are something I need to work on, staying healthy and not further aggravating my knees is more important.  I rebelled and recruited Kelli for a less hilly run.  Scott came along to keep us safe and we ran on 13 west.  I feel bad for missing the work out but my legs are very, very grateful!

I was nervous leading up to today because my knees had been bothering me all week.  After the drive to SG, my hips were tight and really beginning to ache.  Dusty, my sweet sister in law, worked on my hips and VOILA - no pain!

Marcie and I met at my parents and ran to catch the buses up to the start.  We ran 3.38 for our warm up.  We were going to try to stay together but got separated right after the start.   I was on my own and it took me a couple of mile to get my rhythm but I ended up feeling really good.  I was unsure of the last half of the race becuase the route was different than when I ran it 2 yrs ago, so I ended up holding back a little because I was unsure of the last 2 miles.   I finished with a time of 47.14 which is a PR.  It is 1 min faster than my DesNews 10k in 2008 and 5 min faster than my Spectrum 10K in 2007.   I am very happy with my time, but I need to get over my mental block of pushing hard because I could have done better.  I am extremely happy that I felt great and I am ready to finish training for Boston.

Met my friend Paula and my not so good friend the wind this morning.   We opted for an east/west run to avoid the nasty south headwind.  I felt pretty good.  I am sore from Saturday and there was some tightness in my left knee but I was still able to run.  Off to Dallas for 2 days of treadmilling........I am going to try to enjoy it.

***I love it when my husband reads my mind!  He ordered me a new pair of running shoes in PINK to match my clothes for Boston!   He really had to reach outside of himself because he normally only orders me blue.  What a great surprise to an otherwise depressing day!***

AM:  Ran 6.6 on the hotel treadmill.  I was doing the "Newton Hill Workout" from Julie and I started out way to fast.  I finished half of it and had to get off and get ready for work.  Want to try again but smarter and slower.

PM:  Ran 3.4 on the hotel treadmill after riding the bike for 10 min while waiting.  My legs started out trashed but ended up feeling good.  I am sure my legs will be heavy and tired tomorrow.

Tried to run yesterday, but the treadmill was taken and I could not wait.  I had only brought indoor clothes and it was too cold outside.

Met Paula this morning.  We warmed up for 2.5 miles and then did hill repeats to simulate the BBK workout I missed today.  Only our hill was tiny (but longer) compared to what we run at Parkway Palisades.  We finished up with a 1.5 mile cool down.

Met Paula this morning.  We had a good recovery run from yesterday and tried to not to push to hard because tomorrow is a 20 miler day.  Tried out the new pink "Boston" shoes - worked great!

Met the other Boston bound BBK's for our second 20 miler.  I felt much better going into today because one was already behind us.  It was also very nice that the wind was from the south and only 7 of our miles were into the wind.  Felt really good and started pushing too early and thought I was going to die the last two miles, both were into the wind and one was up hill but the pace for them were 8:09 and 8:00 so still faster.  Need to work a little bit more on pacing but it was a good run.  Michelle N and Michelle M treated us to chocolate milk and bagels afterwards - THANK YOU!  Ice bath  for 15 min aftwards.

Met Paula before the snow started.  We started out and about 1.5 miles into the run decided we were over dressed and shedded a layer.    The snow started picking up right after that.  Two stops to stretch my hips along the way, but no soreness from Saturday's 20 miler, just heavy, heavy legs.   Our pace was good except the first mile was in the 10's.  My first mile is always so slow and it really affects our overall pace, not quite sure what to do.

Met the BBK's at Peggy's house for the "extra mileage" at 5:15 and warmed up and then began the warm up.  We did a 4 -3-2 -1 interval two times and then some .25 mile repeats with equal recovery.  Great work out.  Ave pace was 8:40 up until 8 miles when my garmin died.

I woke up at 4:30 to hail pelting my windows and the wind blowing like mad.  I went back to bed thinking I would get up in an hour and run on the treadmill.  Woke up 2 /12 hrs later (must have been really tired) as the kids were getting up for school.  Missed the morning run and it was a sign for the rest of the day.

8:00 am - 1 hr conference call to discuss transition of a client

10:00 am - 30 min conference call on the same topic

10:30 - 3:30  - mgmt meeting -  no FOOD!  I was pretty cranky by the end

3:45 - 5:00 - conference call about the same transition

5:00 - 6:00 - meeting with employee

6:00 - 7:30 - work phones calls

result 100+ emails to deal with

result two:  6 miles on the treadmill - I HATE THE TREADMILL!!!

I had to make up for  yesterday so  I got up early and got in 3 miles before meeting Paula.  Ran 4 easy with her because she is running the Riverton Half tomorrow.  Another 3 on my own.

I was missing the Riverton Half because my daughters have softball and I am coaching my two youngest girls team and cannot miss.  I made a plan to run out to my sisters and then run with her group that way I would not be tempted to sleep in.

I started at 5:30 and did a good paced warm up for 3.25 miles all up hill.  Ran up 5600 W to the golf course and had a good pace for those miles.  Recovered for .75 and prepared for the 4 tempo miles I was planning.  Started the tempo and my splits were:

7:58 steep down and then back up and then gradual downhill

7:52 flat, slight up hill

7:56 slight up hill and the a short down hill

7:33 flat as a pancake

I am so happy with this part of the work out.  I have a very hard time doing speed work on my own and with a harder warm up I was unsure how I would feel. One mile cool down to my sisters house.  Ave pace for these 9 miles:  8:37

Part II:  Met my sister Andee, and her neighbors and had a fun run with them.  These are the reward for the previous 9 miles.  It was great to meet her friends and she has a great group to run with. I really appreciate them letting me tag along.

Ran some easy paced recovery miles with Paula this morning.  It was windy, snowy and icy - will spring ever come?  Talked about how only 3 wks left until Boston and that it is exciting and very scary at the same time.

I was extremely tired all day yesterday and went to bed early.  Still tired when I got up and so I took it easy today.  Met the BBK's and we warmed up for about 2.5 miles and then started the track work.  It is too close to Boston for any speed work so I took it easy and then Dean, Michelle M, Cheris and I headed back to the road.  Most important item for the next 3 weeks is listen to the body and make sure it gets enough rest.  Trying to put that into action.
