This morning was not a perfect race preparation morning.  I slept late because I had been up late working the night before.  Got up, checked the weather, decided what to wear and then it started to unravel.  My husband is out of town again and my kids were fighting over crayons (why can't you ever have enough).  Couldn't find my socks, any socks.   I have tons of running socks and could not find a matching pair.  Paula showed up and dropped off her daughter who was going to watch my kids and I ran out to go and then realized I had forgotten my gloves and ear warmer.  Ran back in, grabbed my stuff and this time we left.

We met up with Kim and her husband early and visited with her and Brent & Sylvie.  We headed out to line up and were ready to start.  I had a rough start.  I could not get going.  Finally, got into a rythm at about the 1 mile mark.  The had an aid station at around 2 miles and I went to grab a drink and ended up with gatorade.  I have not had good experiences with gatorade in the past and new better than to drink it but I did.  Took only a couple of sips and then about 2 mins later, up it came.  I still felt okay and really felt pretty good until about 4.25.  I really started to fade here.  I was tired and had no fuel.  I hung in there and started feeling a little bit better at about 5.75 and then started to push a little towards the finish.  At the the 6 mile mark, I could feel a girl just a step behind me so I picked it up a little.  She did too.  It became a sprint to the end and  it was very close at the end.  I was in the chute first so I am saying I beat her.

After I finished, I went up and met Kim and we cheered in Jennifer, Paula and Sylvia.  The FRB was well represented today.  Everyone did really well and it was great to get to meet  them and visit for a while.

Jody, 100 commando points for the PR, your too modest, you ran great. The true test is to tough it out when you may not be having your best day. Great work, will make you tougher. You almost got another 25 commando points for upchucking, but, only counts at the end of the race. Nice to chat with you, Paula and the other bloggers. Nice to see you are going to get a blogger uniform.

By the way, you WOW work has really paid off.

Stay Cool, train hard, b of bs rools out

YAY JODY!! Congrats! As we thought you blew that gold goal away! So happy for you! (what I'd give to get a 10k in the 40:00's) ALSO- you scored a 3rd place! Cool award? WAY TO GO!!!! you weren't even frazzled by that crazy start to the day- good girl. My hubby's been out of town the last 4 days (back now) I can sympathize!

Wait to go on a PR! That is a smokin' time! Your mother says Congrats too (I am typing this at their house). K think of the time you can get on a day when you are totally feelin it. You are going to run awesome at the Spectrum 10k!! Holy Moly you are getting so fast and I couldnt be happier for you!!!!!

From Lybi on Sat, Feb 09, 2008 at 17:12:26

Woo-Hooo! Great job Jody! I must beg to differ on the commando point count. I think you deserve MORE for upchucking in the middle of a race and not letting it derail your time! Way to hang in there and get an AWESOME PR. I am most impressed. I am also super happy you had that "eye of the tiger" sprint to the finish. Way to go!

How funny, that was my wife Heather that you were racing at the end. She said it was very close at the end and you helped her to push to meet her goal.

Jody,

You are much too modest! You did great and you looked great doing it! It was so fun to meet you! Keep up the good work. I look forward to meeting up with you again!

From Tom on Sat, Feb 09, 2008 at 20:28:13

Nice meeting you today Jody! Wow great race, I didn't realize till I read you report you had chucked! One of my secret goals in every race is to run to point of chuck but so far all I've managed is some pretty good nausea. Way to give you all!

From Benn on Sat, Feb 09, 2008 at 22:17:49

Thanks for the encouragement, Jody and congrats on a huge 10k PR! I love close finishes!

Fantastic job on your race especially after all the mishaps. That is the test of a true winner. Congrats on taking 3rd in your age group.

Sorry about the pre-race prep. That can really bring you down. Unfortunately so much of racing is the mental game. Look at it this way I'm 100% sure that all that stuff will be set out Friday night next week and you will tear it up at the 15K!!! But most importantly no matter how you felt when you PR you have to take a little pride in that, great job!
