Oh, today was rough!  We ran the same half marathon route we did two weeks ago and today was much worse.  The route itself is actually pretty good but I felt awful.  I have not gotten enough sleep this week and my legs were very tired.  We head up the first 4 miles, which are all up hill and then started the down hill / flat section.  I needed to have a bathroom break so at mile 7 we stopped.  Michelle and Cheris GU'd at this point but I was unsure because my stomach had felt so bad.  We kept going, up in front of the Daybreak Temple and then down to 118th.  I was feeling pretty good so I took my GU and that was a mistake.  Less than a mile in, I need to go to the bathroom again and I knew I had 3 miles before the next gas station.  So I tried to put it out of my mind as we started our marathon pace miles.  They were:

8:24 - to slow - especially for down hill

8:02 - better - flat

8:18 - up hill

8:13 - up hill

8:13 - to slow - down hill

I am not very happy with these splits but with a goal of 8:12 for the marathon they were pretty close.  I know with enough sleep and a better stomach these would be better.    Enough whining, I had my meltdown in the car on the way home.  Time to refocus, taper and sleep.

You need to get more sleep! I am sorry you did not feel good today. You will feel good for the marathon, i know that! Those are great splits for feeling crummy! Dont stress about it!!!! Really you are an awesome runner and marathon day will be so different, you will have the adrenaline kick and do great, Just try to relax and take it easy!

I couldn't tell you didn't feel well, you looked really strong to me. I agree, those are great splits for feeling crummy. On marathon day you'll do great!

I'm echoing everyone else, Jody. Those are really good splits, even if you weren't feeling crummy. And Marci is right, you always have more to give at the race than in training. You're on track to do very well!

Great for JUST a training run! Good job!

I agree, that was a hard run! It makes me feel better to know someone else was having a hard time, too! It is probably actually a good omen for the race (I'm sure it is! It's gotta say that somewhere in Runner's World!).

Jody, can I trade one of your crummy days for one of my good days? Turning in a series of 8's is awesome. I think that with all the miles everyone is turning there are going to be some miles that are tougher than others. Looking forward to a taper and to St. George.
