In the words of my 8 year old - it is winter in Texas.  Temps dropped 30 degrees overnight and I hate the wind....so indoors it was.   Jenny met me at the Y this afternoon and ran with me for the first 1.5 hours and then I was on my own.    It wasn't too bad actually, other than it beat me up more than a normal 20 miler does.

One of the areas I wanted to work on today was being more efficient.  I love running with the group, but we are not efficient  - long water stops, I always need a POP stop.  Sometimes it just takes a while.   I enjoy them to much to change, but this was a good confidence builder.

I did 6.8 miles in 62 min (when the treadmill said no more); quick drink, gel & POP (less than 5 min).   Next set was 7.2 in 62 min, drink & gel, and then 6 in 49:43.

I ran progressive, which I like and I have decided will be my strategy for MCM.   I ended up with at least 2MP miles at the end, and in reviewing the treadmill conversion chart, it is probably closer to 4-5

Avg Pace 8:40s?

Now to taper two weeks or three?  I have usually done a 3 week taper, but have noticed most everyone with a 2 week taper this year.   I am leaning this direction since my training has suffered.   This would give me 5 20's - too much?  If so, plan for next weekend?

Let me just say that you have incredible motivation for staying on that thing all morning long. Winter in Texas has not made it's debut in Del Rio yet.

5 20 milers? I don't know if I am the one to give advice on this one, but I would say no. Maybe shorten and speed things up next week? Throw in some MP miles in a like a 15-16 miler? After 4 20 milers, I bet you are ready as far as endurance.

Too bad the group likes the long leisure side of things. It's difficult to get some good tempo if everyone slogs around. Sometimes having someone there to motivate you out weighs the going fast part. It does for me anyway.

You are getting so close to an awesome marathon! What is your goal time? You have trained hard for this marathon in my opinion.

Hi Jody,

I'm not one to give advice either but I would suggest you go to Slowjoe's blog for Monday (10/8) and see Jake K's advice to him. I believe you are in a similar situation as Joe. The advice made great sense to me.

BTW...good luck at CMC. I'm looking forward to a great report!

I have no advice....my thoughts would be to taper a little 3 weeks out and maybe do 18?? I dunno, though, i am dumb!

Great job! My long runs take about an hour longer than I usually plan for. i really dink around when I stop. We get chatting sometimes and forget we are supposed to be running!

Looking forward to this race!!!

Bec - Thanks so much! I am going to have fun and enjoy. I have lost some of that lately and trying to get it back.

IJR - Thank you so much! Exactly what I needed!

Kelli - I am in awe! I have to get over and read the report and comment. Glad to know that I am not the only one who talks a lot. I think the group I run with is tired of my chit chat....You really need to come to Texas since I doubt I am ever getting back to Utah.

The bugs are WAY too big in Texas!!!!
